How to steep herbal tea

Herbal blends are easygoing. Botanicals need hot water and time to open up, so use a little more leaf and give it the full steep.

What you need

  • Kettle
  • Loose leaf herbal blend
  • Infuser or teapot with a strainer
  • Tablespoon
  • Mug

Steps

  1. Boil the water

Bring fresh water to a full boil.

  2. Measure the blend

Add 1 tablespoon of herbal blend per 12 oz of water to an infuser or teapot.

  3. Steep

Pour the water over and steep 5 to 7 minutes. Cover the cup to keep the aroma in.

  4. Strain and enjoy

Take out the blend and enjoy, hot or over ice.

Tips

  • Most herbal blends do not turn bitter, so a longer steep just means more flavor.
  • For iced tea, steep it double strength, then pour over ice.
  • Store blends airtight, away from light and heat.
