How to make cold brew
Cold brew steeps slowly in cold water, so it comes out smooth and mellow. Make a jar of concentrate once and you have iced coffee for days.
What you need
- Large jar or pitcher
- Coarse ground coffee
- Cold, filtered water
- Fine strainer or paper filter
- Room in the fridge
Making more or less? Work out your amounts in the brew lab.
Steps
-
Combine
Add 1 cup (about 85 g) of Coarse ground coffee to a jar with 4 cups of cold water. This makes a concentrate.
-
Stir
Stir so every ground is wet, then cover the jar.
-
Steep
Steep in the fridge for 12 to 24 hours. Longer makes it stronger.
-
Strain and serve
Strain through a fine strainer or paper filter. Mix 1 part concentrate with 1 part water or milk and pour over ice.
Tips
- Drink it within about a week for the best taste.
- Freeze some in an ice cube tray so melting ice never waters it down.
- Too strong? Add more water. Too weak? Steep longer next time.
